Quietly determined at work and gently passionate about her family, Frances Gillian Evans-Jones (“Fran”) initially harboured ambitions in obstetrics and gynaecology. Leaving the hospital behind to start a family, she then spent time working in Ahmadu Bello University Hospital, Zaria, Nigeria, with her husband, Gareth, a paediatrician.
On returning to Liverpool, she resumed a career in general practice. 1977 saw her joining a practice in Chester, where she continued to work for the remainder of her career, conscientiously acquiring additional expertise in family planning and child health. She worked hard with others to see the practice to new premises.
Fran loved fashion, music, history, and gardening and enjoyed a full and happy life. In later years chronic pain took its toll, as did breast cancer. She developed a depression, which became severe and led to her death.
She is survived by Gareth, three children, three grandchildren, and her sister Valerie. Family, friends, colleagues, and patients gathered at St Peter’s, Waverton, Chester, and filled the church with song in celebration of her life.
