Thomas Dunn Herriott (“Tom”) was married to Mary, who was also a general practitioner, and they worked together in partnership, having taken over from another married couple. Tom was a trainer for many years and enjoyed the teaching aspect of his job, and was very well respected.
Tom also played an active part in Wood Green cottage hospital, being both an anaesthetist for visiting surgeons and a phlebotomist.
Tom retired after 40 years of general practice, and although he did locums for a few years he found time to enjoy his many other interests: swimming, tennis, badminton, singing in his church choir, and playing bridge. Even when his Alzheimer’s was quite advanced he could play a game of bridge with understanding friends.
Tom leaves his wife, Mary; four children; and nine grandchildren.
Former general practitioner Bounds Green, North London (b 1922; q Queen’s University, Belfast, 1946), died peacefully after a long illness with Alzheimer’s dementia on 6 December 2007.
