Abstract
GI bleeding requires prompt action, consideration of the disease pattern according to the patient's age, and anticipation of possible subsequent events such as re-bleeding. This article deals with methods of estimating blood loss, diagnostic procedures for recognizing re-bleeding, the consequences of associated conditions, and location of the bleeding lesion. Initial management is described, together with overall management objectives.
