PMCID: PMC2274040  PMID: 20469022

Abstract

The development of the Emergency Medical Care System (EMCS) has been neglected in Canada for many years. The author has attempted to demonstrate that specific standards are required for its improvement. An outline of the EMCS has been presented along with what might be considered an optimal system. Recommendations have been put forth for future improvement in the standard of care delivered by the EMCS.
