Abstract
Propranolol has been available to clinical medicine for over a decade. It was used initially in the treatment of tachyarrhythmias and angina pectoris but now has much more widespread application. Recently the drug is being used more frequently in the treatment of hypertension, and its indications are discussed.
The metabolism and clearance in the liver has major effects on the serum level. With improved knowledge of the properties and adverse effects of this potent agent, it is now possible to apply better patient selection.
