Active Subunits of Escherichia coli Glutamate Synthase1

Abstract

The large and small subunits of Escherichia coli glutamate synthase were isolated. The small subunit catalyzes the NH3-dependent synthesis of glutamate. The large subunit exhibits glutaminase activity.
