Abstract
The article reviews recent research in the USSR aimed at evaluating methods of disinfecting drinking water and at elucidating the mechanisms involved. The use of chlorine, ozone, and gamma rays is discussed, as are their advantages and disadvantages and their effects on Enterobacteriaceae and on enteroviruses.
