Abstract
This article considers relevant aspects of a rare hereditary skeletal manifestation known as osteopetrosis. Although affecting the entire skeleton as a generalized symmetrical increase in bone density, the classical vertebral roentgen finding is that of a “bone within bone” appearance. Of importance to the practitioner in the clinical manifestations of this condition are the following: hepatosplenomegaly, myelophthistic anemia, fractures and possible peripheral neuropathies. Radiographs showing involvement of the thoracic and lumbar vertebrae as well as descriptions of other skeletal roentgen findings are included.
