Abstract

Chiropractors are being sued for the same reasons that other health professionals are. The most common reasons are the result of a treatment complication and a failure in communication. Factors that may prevent an eventual law suit include; good communication skills, listening to the patient, availability of the doctor, politeness and compassion, punctuality, respect for patient rights, maintaining a professional office, establishing realistic treatment expectations, exercising humility, and avoiding high risk situations. In conclusion, a communicative, friendly and knowledgable chiropractor will go far in avoiding law suits.
