Abstract
The lipid intermediate in peptidoglycan biosynthesis was isolated from Escherichia coli strain W and characterized as C55-isoprenyl-pyrophosphoryl N-acetylmuramyl(-pentapeptide)-N-acetyl-glucosamine.
