Abstract
Vulvovaginitis due to Shigella sonnei is reported in a four-year-old child.
Shigella sonnei as a rare primary pathogen causing vulvovaginitis, the prolonged nature of the clinical course, and the therapeutic implications of increasing resistance to ampicillin by the organism are discussed.
