Abstract

Two Nigerian patients with primary liver carcinoma (PLC) who had wedge resection with prolonged survival are described. The localization of their tumors to the right hepatic lobe and their polypoidal nature were favorable factors that allowed early detection and treatment.

The surgical treatment of PLC is reviewed. It is suggested that suitable African patients with PLC be offered resection as a modality of treatment coupled with adequate follow-up to detect and deal with recurrence early.
