Remote Telephone Access: The Critical Issue in Patient Privacy

Abstract

Dial access is the most important development in the technology of patient privacy since the original introduction of computer systems. Dial access requires dependence on informational security techniques which may be foreign to the medical establishment. Resolution of the problems of dial access requires consideration of the patient's legal rights, the scope of the provider's responsibility, and the development of appropriate technology.
