Figure 1.

Tony Leone Ganado moved to the United Kingdom in November 1973 to take up a career in anaesthetics. Political events in the Maltese islands precluded a return to his native country and Tony and his wife, Noreen, settled in the UK, where he progressed rapidly from registrar jobs in Swindon and Coventry to a consultant post in East Birmingham Hospital (now Birmingham Heartlands and Solihull Trust) in 1979. As consultant Tony developed a chronic pain service with a consultant colleague. He also undertook regular ear, nose, and throat, and thoracic surgical sessions. He leaves Noreen and two children.
