Abstract

The increasing number of women with the acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) or with serologic evidence of exposure should alert practicing obstetricians and gynecologists to expect to encounter symptomatic or asymptomatic patients who have been exposed to the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). The author discusses the role of the obstetrician-gynecologist in the management of AIDS patients and reviews the pertinent literature.
