The NCBI-reported temperature optima and GC% of 16 hyperthermophilic (12 archaea and 4 bacteria) and 14 thermophilic (5 archaea and 9 bacteria) species. An additional 165 mesophilic (7 archaea, 158 bacteria) species were also included in our analysis (data not shown). Leave-one-out mispredictions shows the type of misprediction when classifying the temperature optimum of an organism (hyperthermphile versus non-hyperthermophile (hyper) or mesophile versus non-mesophile (meso)) based on a model from the genomes of the other 194 organisms, using tetramer frequencies as the sole classifier.
