Genetic map of the central region of the vaccinia virus genome annotated with the locations of high-scoring topoisomerase sites for several orthopoxes. The vertical lines above the genetic map show the locations of the sites. The base pair coordinates refer to the vaccinia genome (strain Copenhagen). There are slight differences in the sequences among the genomes in the figure. To emphasize the similarities, topoisomerase sites that were of identical sequence and identical placement within a gene were aligned by hand. Only the major open reading frames are shown.
