Abstract

Shands, J. W. (University of Florida, Gainesville). Growth rate and toxicity of Salmonella typhimurium. J. Bacteriol. 89:799–802. 1965.—Salmonella typhimurium was grown at a rapid rate in enriched medium and at an extremely slow rate in a chemostat. Greater than fivefold differences in size were produced. However, there was no appreciable difference in the toxicity of equal numbers of organisms, as determined by ld50 in BCG-infected mice.
