Dear Section Members,
As you read this letter the holiday season will be upon us and another year will have just about disappeared. It seems that time continues to pass more quickly with each year. As I am writing this letter, fall has just begun and the leaves are beginning to change into their beautiful bright red and gold colors. There is comfort in the dependability of the changes of the seasons amidst the turmoil of hurricanes, and economic challenges our country faces.
I would like to acknowledge Jane Eason, PT, PhD who has been the Editor of our Cardiopulmonary Physical Therapy Journal for the past 7 years. Jane was instrumental in getting our Journal online, and has worked very hard to continue to improve the content of our Journal. She also has begun the process of applying to get our Journal listed on Medline. Despite having to deal with extensive damage to her home and all the difficulties she faced in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Jane saw to it that our Journal was published on time. That is a testimony to her dedication and the dedication of our Section members who so willingly stepped in to help Jane. I will miss working with Jane as it has been a pleasure to get to know her, and I wish her all the best as she embarks on new endeavors. I am hoping that Jane won't go very far however! Thank you, Jane, for a job very well done. Anne K. Swisher, PT, PhD, CCS is our new Editor and she and Jane have been working together so there will be a smooth transition. I have no doubt that Jane is leaving the Journal in very capable hands and I look forward to working with Anne in her new role.
Our Section has embarked on a new and exciting endeavor. We have begun to offer audio conferences. Our first audio conference is be presented on November 6 by Susan A. Scherer PT, PhD, Associate Professor of Physical Therapy, Regis University, Denver, CO. The title of the audio conference is “They Are Called Vital Signs Because They Are Vital: Ensuring Safe Physical Activity in Your Physical Therapy Practice.” We will be offering future audio conferences that we hope will be well-received. If you are interested in presenting an audio conference or assisting in the planning of these conferences please contact Jennifer Ryan our Section's Education Chair.
The Combined Section's Meeting has a different schedule for 2009 with the meeting not including weekend days. The meeting is in Las Vegas from February 9-12 and there is great programming planned so I hope you will register to attend if you haven't already done so.
I wish all of you a peaceful and joyful holiday season and I hope you have a very special time with family and friends. We have much to be thankful for despite the difficulties our country faces. I look forward to serving our Section for another exciting year.
Respectfully submitted, Ethel Frese, PT, DPT, MHS, CCS President
