Collaborations, Instrumentation, and Funding in a Nonprofit Molecular Interactions Facility

Surface plasmon resonance based biosensors have been used successfully for a wide range of research applications to quantify biomolecular interactions. Biacore 3000 is one of the most widely used biosensor in academic core laboratories. The presentation will focus on functioning of a biosensor core laboratory with respect to acquisition of a biosensor through Shared Instrumentation Grant, number of users, type of applications, training of users, collaborations, maintenance cost, charge backs and overall management of the facility. Proper training and education of Biacore users is the key to generate good quality research data.
