If you have the science, we have the journal!

The Journal of Cerebral Blood Flow & Metabolism was founded in 1981 under the editorship of A Murray Harper and has thrived ever since under editors of outstanding scientific format: Konstantin A Hossmann (1989 to 1991), Myron D Ginsberg (1992 to 1997), James McCulloch (1998 to 2003), and Richard Traystman (2004 to 2009). With this issue we formally begin our tenure as new editors. This is both a great honor and a great responsibility. Since the Journal's inception almost 30 years ago, scientific publishing has changed dramatically. There was and continues to be an increase in the number of new journals, and scientometrics has begun to dominate the decision of authors to publish in a particular journal. The Journal of Cerebral Blood Flow & Metabolism has maintained its position among the top neuroscience journals in the field. Papers of high quality continue to be submitted and peer reviewed in a fair and swift manner by outstanding editorial board members and invited referees. We wish to welcome the newly appointed members of the editorial board and express our deep appreciation and gratitude to those who are stepping down after providing many years of distinguished service to the Journal.

Scientific publishing is rapidly changing, and the Journal has to adapt and constantly reinvent itself. We are aiming to increase the ties between the Journal, the members of the International Society for Cerebral Blood Flow & Metabolism, and both the biannual BRAIN meetings and the Gordon Research Conferences. Our goal is to make the Journal of Cerebral Blood Flow & Metabolism your preferred Journal. We plan to introduce reader participation. We will invite a number of excellent scientists to review the technical, methodological, and other scientific aspects of the research in our field. We have ambitious plans for further improving the quality of published papers and have in mind a drive to minimize ‘negative publication bias'.

Peer review continues to be the backbone of scientific publishing and we would like to thank our reviewers for the wonderful work they carry out for the Journal and hope that they will continue to do so in the future.

Although peer review is the backbone of scientific publishing, exciting original papers constitute the basis of the Journal. We invite you to send your best work to the Journal of Cerebral Blood Flow & Metabolism, now and in the future. If you have thoughts about the format or scientific content of the Journal, please let us know. We look forward to hearing from you and working with you.
