Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG)-American College of Radiology Radiation Oncology Resident Training Fellowship

The RTOG, with support from the American College of Radiology, has established a radiation oncology resident training fellowship. This 5-day fellowship at RTOG headquarters in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, will introduce residents to radiation oncology research. RTOG fellows will participate in a 2-day RTOG education and training session and a 3-day program designed by the resident and RTOG leadership and staff to more fully investigate their areas of interest in radiation oncology.

Burroughs Wellcome Fund Collaborative Research Travel Grants

The Burroughs Wellcome Fund will provide up to $15,000 in support for researchers from degree-granting institutions to travel domestically or internationally to a laboratory to acquire a new research technique, facilitate or begin a collaboration, or attend a course. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. or be studying for a Ph.D. in mathematics, physics, chemistry, computer science, statistics, or engineering. The grant is intended to bring together biologists and physical scientists, mathematicians, engineers, chemists, statisticians, or computer scientists to answer biological research questions.

Applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States or Canada at the time of application. Grants are not intended to support travel to domestic or international meetings. UCNS Certification Examination in Neuro-Oncology

The United Council for Neurologic Subspecialties (UCNS) will be offering a certification examination in neuro-oncology in 2011.

Applications for the examination are now available on the UCNS Web site at www.ucns.org/go/subspecialty/neuro-oncology/certification and are due January 15, 2011. This computer-based examination, which consists of 200 multiple-choice questions, will be offered at Pearson VUE testing centers from July 11-15, 2011.

The mission of the UCNS, a nonprofit organization, is to help small subspecialties enhance their credibility and grow.

17th Annual Blood-Brain Barrier Consortium Meeting: March 24-26, 2011: Stevenson, Washington

The 2011 Annual Blood-Brain Barrier Consortium meeting will be held March 24-26, 2011, in Stevenson, Washington. The meeting will focus on translational research in the blood-brain barrier and neuro-oncology, including “The Impact of Cancer Therapy on Cognition and Quality of Life” and “The Brain as an Immunologically and Pharmacologically Privileged Site.” The meeting is partially funded by a National Institutes of Health R13 meeting grant, with support from the National Cancer Institute, National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, and National Institute of Deafness and Communication Disorders, and is organized in collaboration with the International Brain Barriers Society.

SNO, with the support of the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation, will host the 2011 Pediatric Neuro-Oncology Basic and Translational Research Conference May 19-20, 2011, in New Orleans, Louisiana. The conference will offer attendees a state-of-the-art update on the field of pediatric brain tumor research.
