Dear Editor,
This is a short note replying to the president’s message in the January 2011 issue of The CVJ (Can Vet J 2011;52:9–12). The discussion we are having in British Columbia is mandatory membership in the CVMA as a condition to practice our profession. Calling it “100% participation” is nothing but political doublespeak, which does nothing to promote your cause in my mind. If “100% participation” of British Columbia veterinarians is so important to maintaining CVMA services, why are you not advocating mandatory membership for veterinarians in all jurisdictions of Canada?
