GyrA Interacts with MarR To Reduce Repression of the marRAB Operon in Escherichia coli

We retract this paper based on additional work in our laboratory (L. M. McMurry), which showed that the plasmid pETgyrA, used to overexpress GyrA in this work and obtained from our laboratory collection, unfortunately did not contain the gyrA gene. Therefore, the data in Fig. 1 and Fig. 2 are incorrect. The data in Table 4 are also not valid because a wrong strain was used. We also could not confirm any interference by TktA-6H with binding of MarR to DNA in gel shift experiments. While we have not reinvestigated the other findings of this paper, the conclusion that GyrA (or TktA) interacts with MarR is not warranted from the data.
