Dear Colleagues,

Welcome to the second issue of the Journal of Interventional Gastroenterology.

In addition to the conventional format of original articles, reviews, case series/reports and letters, we have added two new areas in the JIG: a section on How it happened/Words of Wisdom where expert/senior endoscopists write about their experience, with an emphasis on what the modern readers can learn as they develop new approaches and methodologies to improve clinical outcome and quality patient care. Many have kindly accepted our invitation and made excellent contributions to the Journal. My mentor Dr. Peter Cotton has written an insightful review on what it takes to be a Quality Endoscopist and what is considered quality work. Dr. Jeff Ponsky wrote about the need to develop tools and techniques in response to demand for a solution, and in his case, the invention of the PEG tube for assisted feeding. Another area is publication of state of art lectures from established meetings where the authors talked and wrote about their personal experience and contribution to Medicine. Dr. Felix Leung, our Senior Associate Editor delivered one of the State of Art lectures at the recent DDW in Chicago and talked about the development of the Water Method for colonoscopy and presented interesting data on learning experience and impact on adenoma detection — a potential significant improvement on overall outcome of colorectal cancer screening. We also encourage authors to submit their original work or pilot data in the form of rapid communication. Evaluation of these submissions will be expedited and rapid publication of the accepted manuscripts will be ensured.
