Atkinson, Reginald D., Waterloo, Ont.; University of Toronto, 1951; BOLIM, MCFP; former medical director, Mutual Life Assurance Company of Canada; chair, CMA General Council, Executive Committee and House Building Committee; speaker, CMA General Council; senior member, CMA. Died Aug. 14, 2003, aged 79. Survived by his wife, Marian, and 4 children. In 1963, he became the youngest physician to hold the OMA presidency. When he was awarded the CMA Medal of Service in 1980, the citation read: “To the assemblies over which he has presided, Dr. Atkinson has brought special qualities of dignity and reverence.”

Castagner, Jacques, Saint-Thérèse (Qué.); Université de Montréal, 1948; omnipraticien. Décédé le 9 août 2003, à l'âge de 82 ans.

Cornett, Robert W., Dundas, Ont.; Queen's University, 1952; internal medicine; FCCP, FRCPC; former deputy chief, medicine, head, Respiratory Services, and director, Clinical Teaching Unit, Hamilton General Hospital; professor, McMaster University. Died Aug. 14, 2003, aged 75; survived by his wife, Sondra, and 5 children.

Gagnon, Jean-Jacques, Beloeil (Qué.); Université de Montréal, 1954; chirurgien général; FRCSC; ancien membre du personnel de l'Hôpital Christ-Roi; principalement a l'Hôpital Jean-Talon de Montréal. Décédé le 10 août 2003, à l'âge de 75 ans; laisse son épouse, Hélène Phaneuf et quatre enfant.

Gordon, William F., Oakville, Ont.; University of Glasgow (Scotland), 1948; FRCS(Eng.), FRANZCP, FRCPC, MRCPsych, LMCC, DPM; RAF; former director, outpatients, St. Thomas Psychiatric Hospital; psychiatric consultant, St. Thomas–Elgin General Hospital; lecturer, University of Western Ontario. Died Oct 7, 2003, aged 77; survived by his wife, Nesta, and 3 children.

Hamer, Henry E., Fort St. John, BC; University of Toronto, 1940; former district coroner. Died of cancer Sept. 4, 2003, aged 89; survived by 2 children. His son, David, stated: “He practised in Revelstoke, BC, from 1941 to 1974, a time when house calls and on-call duties were daily fare.”

LaForest, Raymond A., Oshawa, Ont.; University of Ottawa, 1953; pediatrics; former staff, Scarborough General Hospital. Died Oct. 4, 2003, aged 77; survived by 6 children. Classmate Bob McCarney stated: “He was elected by our graduating class as class president for life. He organized our 4 class reunions, including our 50th in September.”

Miao, Wan-Chung, Brampton, Ont.; South China Medical College, 1954; former staff, Peel Memorial Hospital. Died Aug. 15, 2003, aged 71; survived by his first wife, Jean Sun, and a daughter, and his second wife, Nada, and a stepson.

Morrison, Charles G., North Vancouver; University of Manitoba, 1940; ophthalmology; former staff, Lions Gate Hospital. Died Aug. 11, 2003, aged 88.

Muller, A. Karola, Westmount, Que.; University of Cologne (Germany), 1952; EEG; former staff, Allan Memorial Institute. Died Aug. 5, 2003, aged 77; survived by her husband, Dr. Herbert, and 2 children.

Myers, Lindsay E., Antigonish, NS; Dalhousie University, 1972; psychiatry; FRCPC; former staff psychiatrist, St. Martha's Regional Hospital and Community Mental Health Clinic, Antigonish. Died of acute myeloid leukemia Oct. 3, 2003, aged 57; survived by her husband, John, and 3 children. Close friend and classmate Janet Speight stated: “In her life and work, she showed integrity, empathy and intelligence and will be greatly missed by her colleagues, the Dal Med class of '72, patients, friends and family.”

Nazerali, Amir, Barrie, Ont.; University of London (England), 1965; former staff, anesthesia, Royal Victoria Hospital. Died Aug. 3, 2003, aged 65.

Odutayo, Olarotimi, Niagara Falls, Ont.; University of Ife (Nigeria), 1984; MRCOG; former staff, Grenfell Memorial Hospital, Nfld., and Lloydminster, Alta., General Hospital. Died of cancer Sept 6, 2003, aged 44; survived by his wife, Shalom, and 3 sons.

Ross, James L., North Hatley, Que.; McGill University, 1954; general surgery; DABS, FRCSC; former staff, and chair, Department of Surgery, Centre Hospital, Sherbrooke; associate clinical professor, University of Sherbrooke. Died Aug. 13, 2003, aged 73; survived by his wife, Mary Lynn, and 4 children.

Siwak, Walter J., Camrose, Alta.; University of Alberta, 1951; general surgery; DABS, FRCSC; former chief, medical staff, St. Mary's Hospital; senior member, CMA. Died Aug. 3, 2003, aged 80.

Sky, Ruth, Toronto; University of Toronto, 1949; CCFP; former staff, Toronto General Hospital; associate staff, Riverdale Hospital; associate professor, University of Toronto. Died of cancer Sept. 9, 2003; survived by her husband, Dr. Henry, and 3 daughters. Colleague Graham Glancy commented: “Ruth was a wonderful teacher to a host of people who, loosely speaking, represent an unofficial club — ‘the adoptees of Ruth and Henry’. The founding members are the Laotian women they sponsored to Canada and supported throughout their years here, and who have repaid Ruth and Henry with their fidelity and loyalty. I too am a member of this club.”
