The Association of Microbiologists of India has been playing a pivotal role in popularizing microbiology in the country. Popularly known as the AMI, it was founded in 1939 and perhaps is the biggest scientific association of microbiologists in the country with over 3,000 members. AMI publishes The Indian Journal of Microbiology in association with Springer India Ltd.
An annual conference of AMI is held to bring microbiologists, students and scientists on a common platform to discuss the latest developments in the field of microbiology. This year the conference was organized jointly by Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, Central University of Jharkhand and Birsa Agricultural University, Ranchi. Over 1,000 delegates attended the conference. Prominent speakers, scientists, engineers and students from all over the world were a part of this vibrant conference.
Latest research papers on avenues and challenges in cross disciplinary microbiology were extensively discussed and debated during the three day conference. The scientific sessions on upcoming fields such as Bioinformatics/Metagenomics, Biodiversity, Nano-biotechnology, Biomechanics, Bioprocess Engineering were extremely informative for all present and were an apt addition keeping pace with modern trends in Microbiology research.
The conference was well organized however the venues for poster presentations, scientific sessions and refreshments were spread at distances, making it difficult for participants to move from one place to another instantly.
Eminent experts in their respective fields were present at the conference and the objective of extensive exchange of information was achieved. All in all it was a fruitful experience.
Next year’s conference will be organized at Punjab University, Chandigarh and we hope that it will be a great success too.
