Redesign of PNAS: New Covers for the Journal

Diane M Sullenberger, Kenneth R Fulton, Nicholas R Cozzarelli
PMCID: PMC33536

We hope you noticed the changes made to PNAS over the last few years:

  • Submissions are open—authors may submit papers directly to the PNAS office through Track II.

  • Exceptional papers may be highlighted by commentaries and featured on the cover.

  • The Editorial Board now consists of 50 members with expertise from all areas of science.

  • PNAS Online offers free back issues, free collections of papers, free interjournal links, and extensive links to other databases.

  • Supplementary Material enhances articles online.

In further efforts to improve the journal, we are changing its format to make it livelier and more user-friendly. This issue is the premiere of our cover redesign. Throughout the year we plan to intersperse exceptional scientific illustrations on covers with architectural images from the historic Academy building in Washington, DC. Issues will be easier to catalogue because the redesigned spine presents more visible issue information and the accent color will change with each volume. “PNAS” is now highlighted on the cover instead of the “Proceedings,” to reflect how we are more widely known.

This spring we will debut our interior redesign. From cover to cover, PNAS will have a fresh, clean look that will be easier to read, while maintaining the exacting standards of the 1,900 members and 300 foreign associates of the National Academy of Sciences.

We welcome your comments and suggestions.
