Erratum

PMCID: PMC3357301

Atkinson MA, Bluestone JA, Eisenbarth GS, Hebrok M, Herold KC, Accili D, Pietropaolo M, Arvan PR, Von Herrath M, Markel DS, Rhodes CJ. How does type 1 diabetes develop? The notion of homicide or β-cell suicide revisited. Diabetes 2011;60:1370–1379

Several editorial errors occurred in the print version of the article listed above. On page 1371, the sentence “In addition, apoptosis mediated by fatty acid synthase/fatty acid synthase ligand can play an important role (4), thus illustrating the potentially multifaceted face of β-cell demise” should read as follows: “In addition, apoptosis mediated by TNF superfamily-related ligand/receptor pair FasL/Fas can play an important role (4), thus illustrating the potentially multifaceted face of β-cell demise.” On page 1373, in “The β-cell’s unique metabolic regulation of insulin production” section, and on page 1375, in the Figure 4 legend, the abbreviation TCA-cycle was written out incorrectly. It should be tricarboxylic acid cycle, not trichloroacetic acid cycle. The online version reflects these changes.
