The dimension of product spaces

Abstract

The covering dimension of a product space can exceed the sum of the dimensions of its factors. A separable metric space X and a paracompact space Y are constructed such that dim X + dim Y = 0 < 1 = dim(X × Y). Related results are also discussed.
