This book was written and designed for core surgical trainees who are sitting the intercollegiate MRCS exam and could also be useful for students doing their undergraduate clinical years. It is well positioned for this audience. It is an extremely colourful and well laid-out book. Although the layout is quite simple the design works well. The questions for each case or picture are placed on one page and the answers on the following page. This allows the future candidate to read, jot down answers and then to compare at a later date with the answers shown on the other side. The pictures are of excellent quality and well representative of the types of conditions described. The book concentrates on laparoscopic surgery, gastrointestinal endoscopy, colorectal surgery, urology and finally radiology for surgical trainees. This is therefore not comprehensive to the whole of the MRCS but the book is part of a series. The information is up to date and extremely useful.

In view of its simplicity, extremely good layout, excellent pictures and easy readability, I would hope that there will be many more in this series to come. It will be a good basis for exam questioning and vivas to my own core surgical trainees.
