Abstract
This article describes updates on author guidelines for manuscripts submitted after January 20, 2012 to the interactive Journal of Radiology Case Reports.
To further improve the quality and educational value of the articles published in the Journal of Radiology Case Reports (1), new requirements have been added for manuscript submission (2):
Teaching Point
The Teaching Point should NOT be specific for the presented case but rather general in regard to the described entity.
The Teaching Point also needs to include the imaging findings of the presented entity in a “general” way (NOT specific to the presented case). Please describe how such an entity would present to the reader.
Figures & Figure legends
All figures need annotations (arrow, asterisk etc.) to highlight the described findings.
Subfigures need to be combined to one single image and labeled accordingly (a, b, c etc.). Otherwise they need to be listed as separate figures (1, 2, 3 etc.) – including separate figure legends.
Figure legends need age, gender, diagnosis, a good description of used technique and findings.
If the findings are not obvious, please provide in addition magnified (sub)figures.
References
No references are permitted in the title, abstract and question & answer section. This helps avoiding confusion, in example when accessing the Q/As separately.
Abbreviations
Abbreviations need to be spelled out the first time mentioned in the manuscript.
No abbreviations are permitted in the title, abstract or question & answer (Q/A) section.
Tables
ALL contents provided in the tables (summary and differential diagnosis table) have to be provided within the discussion section.
Questions & Answers
Answer choices may NOT be repeated in the explanation.
This new requirement takes effect on January 20, 2012 and includes new submissions as well as revisions of manuscripts that have been submitted prior to this date.
The manuscript template (3) has been updated accordingly and is mandatory to use. More information about the author guidelines can be obtained on the journal website (4).
