General practitioner Belfast (b Belfast 1946; q Belfast 1970; DCH, DRCOG, FRCGP), d 19 December 2003.
Figure 1.

Brian Darby was a general practitioner in British Columbia and Northern Ireland for more than 30 years. He was a trainer in the Northern Ireland GP vocational training scheme and was also involved in undergraduate medical education. He was both a principal in a busy south Belfast practice and a hospital practitioner caring for neurological patients at Musgrave Park Hospital. He was a lifelong non-smoker and so it was an irony that he should die from disseminated lung cancer. He leaves a wife, Merle, and two children.
