FINISHED YOUR SPRING BREAK READING?

Veterinary textbooks wanted!

PMCID: PMC339259

Since July 1998, the Commonwealth Veterinary Association Book Program has been coordinated from the Ontario Veterinary College (OVC) by Dr. Brian Derbyshire and Mr. David Hull, librarian at the OVC. Under the program, donated veterinary textbooks are shipped to developing commonwealth countries. Dean Alan Meek of the OVC graciously provides storage space for all the books while they await shipment.

During the 2000–2001 period, 9 shipments comprising 117 books were sent to 4 countries as follows: India (6 shipments; 68 books), Uganda (1 shipment; 9 books), Ghana (1 shipment; 22 books), and Guyana (1 shipment; 18 books). Four of the shipments were to institutions and 5 were to practising veterinarians. Preference is given to institutional requests. The number of shipments and the number of books shipped were less then 50% of the previous year's totals.

Recent editions of textbooks from all areas of veterinary medicine are accepted; however, titles in avian and fish diseases, pharmacology, and theriogenology are especially needed. So, take a look in your closet, finish up the book you've got on your bedside table, and send them all off to:
