AAVMC APPOINTS LAWRENCE HEIDER AS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Dr. Lawrence Heider has been named Executive Director of the Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC), effective May 1, 2002. Dr. Heider is the former dean of the Atlantic Veterinary College at the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI), where he served from 1991 to 1998. After his tenure as dean, Dr. Heider became the acting president of UPEI for 1 year. Before joining UPEI, Dr. Heider was in various positions on the faculty at The Ohio State University (OSU) for 25 years.

The AAVMC coordinates the affairs of the 27 veterinary medical colleges in the United States, the 4 colleges of veterinary medicine in Canada, departments of veterinary science and comparative medicine, animal medical centers, and the University of Glasgow Veterinary School. In his position as executive director, Dr. Heider will manage and coordinate the affairs of the Association as they relate to teaching, research, and service missions of the academic veterinary medical community. In addition, he will serve as the AAVMC representative to allied educational and research groups, headquartered primarily in the Washington, DC, area.

Dr. Heider currently serves as president of his consulting firm, L.E. Heider and Associates, Inc., and as professor emeritus at UPEI and OSU. He received his DVM from The Ohio State University and is a diplomate in the American College of Veterinary Preventive Medicine.
