DENNIS AUBREY JACKSON
DENNIS AUBREY JACKSON, DVM, MS, Dip. ACVS, died suddenly on May 12, 2002 at UBC Hospital. Dennis was born February 3rd, 1950, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and after obtaining his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan, went on to complete an internship, residency, and Masters program in small animal surgery at the University of Minnesota. He then obtained Board Certification from the American College of Veterinary Surgeons at the University of Illinois while working as an assistant professor of surgery. After moving to Vancouver in 1981, he started his small animal referral surgery practice, and later established the Granville Island Veterinary Hospital as a general practice. Dennis was an incredibly dedicated professional who valued and loved his work. He was very grateful to his wonderful, caring staff who supported him everyday. Dennis loved life and the opportunity to work with integrity in a profession that he had great passion and respect for. A true academic, he had a natural curiosity for the medical sciences and was constantly furthering his knowledge in the field of small animal surgery. Dennis was an avid reader and car enthusiast; had developed a keen appreciation for music; enjoyed sports, especially hockey; and was looking forward to extensive travel. Dennis will be remembered for his generosity and determination to succeed. Possessing a great sense of humor and unbelievable stamina, he was a devoted husband and father and placed the needs of others, especially family, above his own. He was an incredible man with an amazing future ahead of him and will be sadly missed by his wife, Penny, his son Derek and his daughter Kristin. In honor of Dennis's commitment to veterinary medicine, a memorial scholarship fund has been set up to assist in the development of outstanding young veterinarians wishing to pursue the advancement of small animal surgery. DR. ROY WINSTON SPRACKLIN, DVM
ROY WINSTON SPRACKLIN was born to Rowland and Tryphena Spracklin on June 7, 1919. After graduating from Riverdale Collegiate in Toronto, Roy attended the Ontario Veterinary College in Guelph, Ontario. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1941 to 1945. He was an active member of the Knox United Church, the Royal Canadian Legion, and the Ontario Veterinary Association. Loving husband of Margaret Francis, father to Roy, passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2002.
