SURGERY ON CD ROM

PMCID: PMC339903

The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Montreal is proud to announce the launching of a new CD ROM on “The Surgery of the Abomasum in Cattle.” This CD ROM has won 1st prize from the Ministry of Education of the province of Quebec in the multimedia category. The authors, André Desrochers, DVM, DipACS and Denis Harvey, DVM, PhD (educative technologies), have produced the CD ROM to help practitioners in understanding the mechanism of abomasal displacement, dilatation, and volvulus. On the CD ROM, there are 3D-representations of the normal anatomy of the abomasum and the pathophysiology of abomasal problems, a video of the principal types of surgery used in the management of abomasal problems, and interactive information on different aspects of treatment available (suture material, preoperative preparation, surgical techniques, and medical support). The CD ROM is available in English, French, Spanish, and German.

Produced with the financial support of Schering-Plough Animal Health, the CD ROM has been demonstrated in the Schering-Plough booth at the Buiatric Meeting in Hanover and at the American Association of Bovine Practitioners in Madison, Wisconsin.

You can see some clips from the CD ROM and place an order at www.litiem.umontreal.ca or by fax at (450) 778-8132 or through regular mail to Micheline Filion Carrière, DVM, MA, Director of Continuing and Distance Education, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Montreal, 3200 Sicotte Street, St-Hyacinthe, Quebec J2S 7C6.
