AYURMEDICA 2012 AT MARYLAND, USA

International Conference on Herbal and Traditional Medicine, New Delhi

The International Association of students in Agricultural and related Sciences (IAAS), Leuven, Belgium; the international pharmaceutical magazine, Pharmanext, New Delhi; InPharm Association (a scientific and educational society); Society of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (SPER); Association of Pharmacy Professionals (APP); and SAARC Pharmaceutical Forum (SPF) are organizing the ‘International Conference on Herbal and Traditional Medicine (HTM) 2012’ from 26 to 28 October, in New Delhi. Under the chairmanship of Prof. C. K. Kokate, Vice-Chancellor, KLE University, Belgaum (Karnataka), topics covered by the conference will include: traditional to contemporary medicine-ethno pharmacological perspectives; plant-derived drug discovery and development; globalization of traditional medicines; nutraceuticals and traditional medicine-evidence-based health care claims; promotion and development of natural products with international cooperation; synergy in natural products; bio-cultural diversity; Intellectual Property Right (IPR) protection of traditional medicine; cultivation, collection, and conservation of medicinal plants; commercialization of traditional medicine; the interface between history and ethno pharmacology of traditional medicines; phytochemical, pharmacological, and clinical studies of natural products; traditional medicine and neglected diseases; harmonization of regulatory requirements for herbal medicine; future of ancient systems of medicine-multidisciplinary approaches in health sciences; and drug discovery and development from traditional medicine inspired approaches. FIFTH WORLD AYURVEDA CONGRESS 2012, BHOPAL, MADHYA PRADESH

The fifth World Ayurveda Congress (WAC) and Arogya Expo arescheduled to be convened in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, from 7 to 10 December 2012 with its venue in Lal Parade Grounds. The focal theme is ‘Enriching Public Health through Ayurveda’. The Fifth WAC program is divided into three sections: 1) Academic Events (including parallel and plenary sessions) 2) Associate Events (about 18 to be held from 5th to 10th December) and 3) Arogya Expo. The expo, Arogya 2012, will spotlight traditional and tribal health-care knowledge from India's rural and tribal communities, especially from Madhya Pradesh, the north-eastern states, and tribes throughout the country.

As at the 4th World Ayurveda Congress, nearly half a million visitors and about 5000 delegates are expected, reinforcing the identity of WAC's as global summits bringing together diverse stakeholders of Ayurveda onto a common platform, that is both meaningful and popular. The WAC hopes to consolidate the momentum of progress in Ayurveda, and provide a strong boost to the growing popularity of Ayurveda and associated fields globally.

EIGHTH TADVIYA SAMBHASHA BY DR. PALEP'S MEDICAL EDUCATION AND RESEARCH TRUST

In order to facilitate ongoing medical education for both Ayurveda and modern medical practitioners together, Tadvid Sambhasha, a symposium for constructive scientific discussions and debates, has been organized for the past seven years, and has come to be recognized as a prestigious annual feature of Dr. Palep's Medical Research Foundation,. With its conceptual origin in Charak Samhita, Tadvidya Sambhasha is an organized debate between modern and traditional physicians with the aim of enhancing their knowledge and skills. The eighth edition of this Sambhasha is scheduled on September 15, 2012, at the ‘Durbar Hall, Haffkine's Institute, Mumbai’. Haffkine's Institute along with Medical Research Center, Kasturba Health Society (MRCKHS), Mumbai are co-sponsoring the event.

The theme is ‘Evidence Base for Integrative approach to Medical Practice: Implications for Medical Education, Research and Health Care’. Eminent medical scientists are participating in this seminar. Prof. Dr. Ram Harsh Singh will deliver the Dr. PK Devi Oration, speaking on ‘Integrative Health care: Past, present and future’. Dr. HS Palep, the founder of PMERT, will speak on ‘Can Ayurveda be integrated with Scientific Modern Medicine Syllabus?’; Prof. Bhushan Patwardhan on ‘Strategy for integrating systems Ayurveda and systems biology’ and Dr. Kishore Patwardhan on ‘Faculty development: Opportunities and Challenges’. The other lectures will be on ‘Cutting edge scientific research in Ayurveda’ by Dr. RD Lele, ‘Evidence based Ayurvedic Practice’ by Dr. Sanjiv Rastogi, ‘Evidence based Ayurvedic research’ by Dr. Narendra Bhat and ‘SWOT analysis in integrative health care policies’ Dr. KR Kohli.
