Editorial: Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research® Welcomes Editor-in-Chief Seth S. Leopold MD

Randall E Marcus 1,, Lee Beadling 2
PMCID: PMC3528900

Dr. Seth Leopold assumes the position of Editor-in-Chief of Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research® (CORR®) with this issue. Dr. Leopold brings his experience as a distinguished surgeon and joint replacement expert to our Journal and is committed to upholding CORR’s standards for the highest quality peer-reviewed manuscripts, while introducing new ways of presenting the latest orthopaedic information to our readers.

Seth practices in Seattle, Washington, subspecializing in joint replacement and adult reconstructive surgery. He is professor of orthopaedic surgery at the University of Washington and has been named one of the “Seattle’s Top Docs” by Seattle Magazine. He received his undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College and his medical degree from Cornell Medical School. He is also a graduate of the U.S. Army Airborne School.

He has a long-standing interest in medical publishing and has served as an Associate Editor for CORR® and the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, American Edition. He has made numerous scholarly contributions; much of the focus of his research has been in understanding and improving peer review and evaluating and eliminating some of the larger sources of bias that affect it.

Seth has many plans for the future of CORR, some of which you will find in this issue. The inclusion of monthly editorials, columns, and Editor’s Spotlight/Take 5 are just a few examples of the changes you will see and look forward to reading each month in print and online at the CORR web portal www.clinorthop.org. There also are changes and goals that might not be as evident; those include simplifying the author submission and manuscript review processes, deepening and diversifying the editorial board structure, and reducing the time from manuscript submission to acceptance.

Seth follows in the footsteps of the four renowned orthopaedic surgeons who have led CORR: Anthony F. DePalma MD, Marshall Urist MD, Carl T. Brighton MD, and most recently Richard A. Brand MD.

We put our faith, trust, and the future of CORR in his hands and we are certain that our Journal will benefit and grow under his guidance.
