Footnotes
An explosive RDD is commonly referred to as a “dirty bomb.”
For complete details of the incident, see The Radiological Accident in Goiânia. International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Vienna. 1988 (http://www-pub.iaea.org/MTCD/publications/PDF/Pub815_web.pdf).
This in addition to delivering medical care, providing for a safe, orderly, and expeditious evacuation, issuing shelter-in-place instructions where appropriate, ensuring that power, water, and communications infrastructures are restored, and overseeing culturally sensitive handling and disposition of the deceased.
The findings and conclusions in this report are those of the authors and do not necessarily represent the official position of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention or the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry.
