Abstract
Some of the infecting fd single-stranded viral deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) molecules were found to be degraded after having initiated infection. The degradation products were reused for synthesis of DNA, primarily bacterial. Degradation was most extensive when viral DNA was replicating.
