This issue of YJBM is dedicated to the memory of Donna Diers.
Donna Diers, Professor Emerita of the Yale School of Nursing, sixth dean of the School, and American Academy of Nursing Living Legend, died on February 23, 2013, at Yale-New Haven Hospital. Professor Diers was a true living legend. Whether it was whistleblowing nurses or other public policy issues of note, Professor Diers was always asking what we could do to bring these issues to light in order to help advance the practice of nursing. Our article, “The Silence of the Unblown Whistle: The Nevada Hepatitis C Public Health Crisis,” that appears in this issue of YJBM was her idea and is just one example of Professor Diers’ many public policy advocacy efforts on behalf of nurses. It was a tremendous honor to know Professor Diers and, also, a privilege to learn from her. Professor Diers had such a profound effect on her students, and her legacy will live on in the memories of those whom she taught, mentored, and inspired.
