Dietary supplements are regulated by the Food and Drug Administration. Under the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994 (DSHEA), dietary supplements can be marketed without pre-approval by the FDA. The dietary supplement manufacturer is responsible for ensuring that a dietary supplement is safe before it is marketed. FDA is authorized to take enforcement action against any unsafe dietary supplement product.
