Evaluation of a Washing Procedure in the Examination of Almonds for Escherichia coli

Abstract

Almond samples were examined for Escherichia coli by the EC method employing two sample preparation procedures: direct inoculation and washing. The washing procedure was conducted under specified conditions with an eluent containing surfactant; results averaged only 60% of the incidence shown by the direct inoculation procedure.
