Dear Editor,
Dr. Rumney raises an interesting possibility about slaughter cameras exciting more antipathy to the beef industry. My colleague, Temple Grandin, makes an excellent point in response to that possibility. She explains that what people imagine is often more horrific than reality — compare horror programs on radio versus television! According to her, the “open door” strategy has worked well all over Europe. Failure to provide camera access is likely to invite thoughts of “what are they hiding?”
