Short abstract
Ophthalmologist who provided charitable eye care and treatment to Delhi's poor
Minoo Shroff inherited his ophthalmologist father's pioneering spirit and commitment to helping those for whom treatment was sometimes unaffordable. His father had established Dr Schroff's Charity Eye Hospital in a densely populated part of Delhi. Minoo became honorary chief medical officer at the hospital in 1948 and later surgeon emeritus.

During his tenure there he modernised and upgraded the services and expanded the hospital. His success in harnessing the Eicher Corporate Group's collaboration was largely responsible for this and meant that he could provide services to the poor of Delhi, which otherwise would have been way beyond their means.
Minoo Schroff was born in 1922 and, after qualifying at Lahore, went to England for postgraduate training before returning to India.
In 1984 Minoo and his two sons set up the Shroff Eye Centre in Kailash Colony, New Delhi. As always he kept in mind the less well off. He leaves a wife, Mehroo, and two sons.
Minoo S Shroff, senior consultant Shroff Eye Centre, Kailash Colony, New Delhi, India, and former president Delhi Ophthalmological Society (b 1922; q King Edward Medical College, Lahore; DO, DOMS, FICS), d 15 March 2004.
