EDITORIAL
Beginning in 2014, the Journal of Virology will add a new section called Gems, which will feature brief invited reviews on current topics, emerging stories, and key developments in virology. Gems will provide lucid summaries of key findings that are written clearly and succinctly and will be directed toward the broad virology community. The aim is to report recent developments and also to discuss the importance of new findings to virology. Gems may also include opinions, views on future directions, or analysis of controversial or divergent findings.
Unlike the longer minireview format, Gems will be limited to 3 journal pages and will include 1 to 2 figures or tables and a maximum of 20 references. To ensure broad and up-to-date coverage of what is happening in virology, Gems will be solicited by a team of newly appointed Associate Editors. Authors may propose topics to the Associate Editors but it is the Associate Editors who will select the topics and invite submissions. Unsolicited Gems will not be considered.
The Associate Editors are:
Felicia Goodrum, University of Arizona
Julie Pfeiffer, University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center
Stacey Schultz-Cherry, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital
Christopher Sullivan, University of Texas at Austin
Billy Tsai, University of Michigan Medical School
