We would like to raise the awareness of readers of DentoMaxilloFacial Radiology to the following incident of redundant publication.
Data reported in the following article:
Gulsahi A, Paksoy CS, Ozden S, Kucuk NO, Cebeci ARI, Genc Y. Assessment of bone mineral density in the jaws and its relationship to radiomorphometric indices. Dentomaxillofac Radiol 2010; 39: 284–289
have been reported previously in the following article:
Gulsahi A, Özden Ş, Cebeci Aİ, Kucuk NO, Paksoy CS, Genc Y. The relationship between panoramic radiomorphometric indices and the femoral bone mineral density of edentulous patients. Oral Radiol 2009; 25: 47–52.
Although further results are reported in the article published in DentoMaxilloFacial Radiology, the prior article in Oral Radiology was omitted as a reference and some figures are essentially identical in both articles.
Neither the editor of DentoMaxilloFacial Radiology nor anyone else from the editorial board of the journal was aware of the earlier publication. The information about duplicity was received only after the submission, peer review and publication of DentoMaxilloFacial Radiology 2010; 39: 284–289.
