Twenty-three years of service in the Journal and the last three years as the Editor-in-chief have been an extremely fulfilling experience for me. This is my last address to you all in the capacity of the Editor-in-chief of this prestigious journal, The Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology of India. The baton that was handed over to me by Dr. Adi Dastur was very heavy, full of responsibilities and commitments. It had the legacy of Dr. J. Jhirad, Dr. K. M. Masani, Dr. V. N. Purandare, Dr. R. D. Pandit, Dr. M. N. Parikh, and finally Dr. Adi Dastur. The common factor of all these stalwarts was: “Malice towards none and charity for all.”

I must admit that when I became the Editor-in-chief of this journal I had a dream. With all the humbleness, I may say that with the guidance of my seniors and the help from my juniors as well as FOGSI staff, I could fulfill my dream and we could achieve the present status of our journal.

To enumerate few important changes that happened to our journal, first, we could change the outlook of the journal. I may say that by look and content, we could bring the status of our journal almost at par with those of our international counterparts. We collaborated with the Springer International and got our journal recognized in the PubMed, and now our journal is marching toward the ultimate goal of Indexation in the Index Medicus. The Indian contributors in the field of Obs & Gyn were given a separate and bold inclusion in the “Milestone”. Thus, we were able to acknowledge and publish the contribution of Indian stalwarts in Obstetrics & Gynecology in our journal. It was observed that the young Obstetrician & Gynecologist had the will and the zeal to contribute articles in the journal but were lacking the know-how of good writing and research. The Project for Inculcating Culture of Scientific Enquiry and Pursuit (PICSEP) and the National Congresses on Research Methodology and Scientific writing have borne good results. Now, we have started receiving well-researched articles from the young Obstetricians & Gynecologists. For this, I must acknowledge the contribution of Dr. M. N. Parikh and Dr. P. C. Mahapatra. I may say that we are confident of the potential of our juniors, and we are sure that they will continue the legacy to reach much greater heights.

With the help of our office staff and my colleagues, we could put all the articles published in the FOGSI journal during the last 60 years on the FOGSI website. Inclusion of national editors has helped us bring in contributions from senior teachers from all the corners of India. The computerization of this journal has made life easier for everyone and has made its functioning smooth.

Your dream provides the perspective that makes that kind of effort possible to achieve your goal. If the power of a dream is coupled with the right attitude and effort, then the result is always positive, which is palpable by seeing our current FOGSI journal.

Now I hand over this prestigious job of the Editor-in-chief to the most competent and reliable colleague, Dr. Gautam Allahbadia, with a parting message: “Nothing will happen until you generate the will to make it happen.”

My sincere thanks to you all for giving me this opportunity and support for more than two decades and wish you the very best for many years to come.
