Dear Editor,
We appreciate the comments regarding our article entitled “Relationship between type 2 diabetic retinopathy (DR) and periodontal disease in Iranian Adults” published in North American Journal of Medical Sciences 2014; 6:139-44.[1]
In response to the comment, the control group, we selected healthy individuals matched to the cases as a secondary target for comparison of the oral hygiene and periodontal conditions of the diabetics versus the control group. The cases were 84 diabetic patients with retinopathy under focus and the controls were 129 type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) patients without retinopathy under focus. We state that the severity of periodontal disease was significantly correlated with the severity of DR, and the risk of proliferative DR (PDR) was significantly higher in the presence of periodontal disease. This comparison occurred between two groups of diabetic patients with or without respective to retinopathy. It could be considered that we agree some mistake occurred in the numbers of Table 1 in our article. We wish to correct it as following:
Table 1.
